1/12 Mon

W: Will you read it to me?

M: Let me finish the newspaper first. Let me finish (my word). (내 말 좀 끝까지 들어봐)”

W: You’ve been saying that forever! 아까부터 계속 그렇게 말씀했잖아요!

M: Well, how about reading the newspaper together?

W: That’s boring. Let’s read this book. And these books too.

M: I thought you said one book.

@ 지루하고 실증났을때  “I am sick and tired of ~”



1/13 Tue

M: Mom!

W: Yeah, James.

M: Can I have some snacks?

W: What time is it?

M: It’s four.

W: We’d better wait. It’s almost time for dinner. 기다리는 것이 좋겠어.   It’s time for ~ “~할 시간이 되다.”

W: Well …  what kind of snack do you want?

M: Chocolate?

W: How about some carrots?

M: No. Then I’d like to have a sandwich! A spinach sandwich!

W: How are things going, James? 요즘 어떻게 지내?

M: I was feeling great on Friday, but I started to feel sick Saturday afternoon. started to (스타르루)

M: I thought I’d get better, but I feel worse than before. 괜찮을 거라 생각했는데, 더 안 좋아진 것 같아.

    - I thought I’d (아이 써라잇)

M: And I’m really worried because I’m scheduled to give a presentation at work on Tuesday.

be scheduled to(공식적)  = be supposed to(의무감) = ~하기로 예정되어 있었다.

W: Well, what seems to be the problem? 뭐가 문제야?

M: I thought I had the flu, but the docter said it was just a bad cold.    I thought I had (아이 써라이 햇)

M: He gave me some cold medicine but it doesn’t seem to help. 도움이 되는 것 같지 않아.



1/15 Thu

M: Time to eat!

W: I’m starving. What’s that?

M: Don’t complain! 불평 하지마.

W: But what is it, and where is mom?

M: She put me in charge of dinner because she’s not feeling well tonight. in charge of “~를 맡다”

M: It’s Chicken Curry. I just followed a recipe here.

W: Let me see that.

W: Dad. You’re missing a page!

M: What kind of style do you want? 어떤 스타일로 해드릴까요?

M: Do you want the same style as last time?

W: I’d like a trim. 머리를 다듬고 싶습니다.

M: Sure. Please take your hair pin out.

W: How long will it take?

M: It will take about 10 minutes.


@ I’d like a perm. 파마를 하고 싶다.

   I’d like it colored. 염색을 하고 싶다.

   I’d like some highlights. 부분 염색을 하고 싶다.

W: Hi. How can I help you?

M: I’d like to rent a car for 5 days.

W: We have economy cars and full-size cars available.

M: What is the main difference between these cars?

W: The main difference is size. The economy car is the smallest. economy car : 경차

W: How many people are with you?

M: Just my wife and me.

W: Well, the economy car would work.

@ Full-size car : 대형차 / Mid-size car : 중형차 / Compact car : 중소형차 /  Subcompact car : 소형차 @ 렌터카와 관련된 표현

I’d like to rent a car : 차를 빌리고 싶어요.   Which model do you want? : 어떤 차를 원하세요.

I want a compact car : 소형차로 주세요.     Autometic or manual? 자동 변속기와 수동 변속기 중

How long will you be renting it? : 얼마나 사용하실 거에요?     For three days.

How much does it cost a day? 하루에 얼마에요?

M: Mom, can I go to a moive with Jennifer?

W: Sure, but weren’t you supposed to get a report card sometime this week?

weren’t you supposed to get(원츄 서프스투겟)   report card : 성적표

M: Well, can I call Jennifer now?
W: You didn’t answer my question. Did you receive it? 넌 내 질문에 대답하지 않았어!

M: I love you Mom!

W: Don’t try to butter me up. 아부 하려지마.   Don’t try to butter(돈 트라이루우 버럴)

     butter someone up : ~에게 아부를 하다. = flatter

@ flatter 자만하다, 돋보이게 하다.
- Don’t flatter yourself(자만하지 말아라)

- Wear clothes that flatter your body (당신 몸을 돋보이게 하는 옷을 입으세요)
